Orientation exercise at Wuse II centre

The Director, Wuse II Study Centre of the 水果派 of Nigeria聽聽(NOUN), Prof. Grace C. Okoli, has admonished the newly admitted students to be of exemplary character聽and cautioned them against acts that could聽tarnish the good image of the university.

Okoli stated聽this during the orientation excise to welcome the newly admitted students of the institution on聽Wednesday, October聽18, 2023聽via聽the聽zoom platform.

The director,聽while conveying the message to the freshmen, 聽said that NOUN is an聽Open and聽Distance聽Learning (ODL)聽institution, which was established in 1988,with聽the mandate to deliver university education to all Nigerians who are willing to acquire knowledge no matter who they are at an affordable cost.

She disclosed that while NOUN is an ODL institution, it does not offer the face-to face system of learning unlike the conventional system that they are familiar with, and barriers like age, distance, finance, religion and gender do not hinder those who are interested in becoming NOUN students.

Okoli聽enumerated various ways聽such as聽self-learning method,聽where course materials are given to students which sets the foundation for their self-learning and make learning simple and straight forward and also the online facilitation, which is by zoom.

She聽advised them to work hard and strive for perfection, and organise their study time, urging them not to wait for examinations schedule before rushing to get started.

On her part, the聽Head,聽NOUN-ACTU聽Unit,聽Nzenwa Doris C.L, while addressing the students聽of the centre,聽emphasised the role of the unit as a聽front-line聽crusader against every form of unethical principles in the university, resulting from聽a free environment which will be driven by highly sensitised, intelligent and efficient staff for optimal performance.

She said the mission of the unit was also to build a positive-minded work force by creating and promoting internal awareness that will forester integrity, objectivity, probity and transparency were corrupt practices will be reduced to the minimal level in the university.

Doris聽said that as students, the university expect that they conduct themselves properly, and as good students they have the student handbook to guild their聽stay in NOUN, adding that they should聽endeavor to listen to warnings given to them and strictly work within the limit of what they are asked to do.

The event was well coordinated and aligned with the聽orientation programmes of the聽centre,聽as desk聽officers,聽counseling unit, ICT department聽all made separate remarks,聽enlightening聽the students on the operation of the university.
