
Workshop on new frontiers of information
As part of activities to commemorate the Global Media and Information Literacy Day,聽two聽separate workshops聽aimed at emphasising the vital role聽of the concept聽in creating an informed and engaged society聽have been聽planned to hold at the headquarters of the 水果派 of Nigeria (NOUN) in Abuja.
The聽two聽lectures聽have the same聽theme:聽鈥淣ew Digital Frontiers of Information:聽Media and Information Literacy for Public聽Interest Information,鈥漺ould聽on Thursday, October 24 and Friday, October 25,聽2024 at the Conference Hall, NOUN headquarters, Abuja, by 10:00am.
The workshops聽were聽jointly organised by the Federal Ministry of Information, International Media and Information Literacy Institute聽of the聽水果派 of Nigeria, (IMILI-NOUN) and The United Nations Education and Scientific Organisation (UNESCO).
According to the Head, Mass Communication Department, NOUN,聽who is also the host, Dr. Lateef Adelakun, the thrust of the聽first-day聽workshop was to address the challenges of misinformation and promote strategies to verify and share accurate information, highlight the significance of media and information literacy in today鈥檚 digital age.

Community engagement through targeted campaigns in religious institutions and educational settings would also form part of the focus of the workshop, as organisers hope to encourage responsible media consumption and dissemination among all age groups, especially the youth.
Students of Mass Communication, Media and Communication Educators, members of the university community, were also the target of the workshop on the first day, he said.
Adelakun鈥檚 counterpart in the Nile University of Nigeria,聽Dr. Jacob Shagbaor Suemo, will feature as guest speaker, while the聽NOUN聽Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, will be聽the chief host of聽both聽events.
The second-day workshop is targeted at policy makers, communication聽professionals, Civil Society Organisations,聽students of Mass Communication,聽academics聽and members of the university聽community.
Mardia Umar,聽a broadcast聽journalist with Economic and Financial Crimes聽Commission (EFCC) Radio, Abuja,聽will feature as guest speaker,聽Adelakun explained.
The聽Global Media and Information Literacy Week is an annual event to raise awareness and celebrate the progress achieved towards Media and Information Literacy for all.
