VC delivering his opening remarks
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof.聽Olufemi Peters, has unveiled聽three聽new聽medical diagnostic laboratory units聽of the聽Department of Environmental Health Science,聽Faculty of聽Health聽Sciences聽(FHS).
The聽state-of-the-art, well-equipped聽laboratories are:聽Pathology lab,聽Medical聽Microbiology聽lab聽and聽Haematology lab,聽all聽located at the聽faculty鈥檚聽block, NOUN headquarters, Abuja.
Speaking before their聽official聽commissioning,聽Prof. Peters聽described the event as a dream come true for the faculty, as the new laboratories will聽reduce difficulties and enhance first-hand diagnosis for staff in the university.

鈥淭his event is very important in the annals of the university as it will聽improve the scientific spirit of the staff, as practicing science makes perfection and not just skill,鈥澛爃e said.
While commending the first dean of聽then聽then聽School of Health Sciences, Prof. Mba Okoronkwo(OON), for blazing the trail, Peters also urged the faculty members to utilise the laboratories for their professional growth.
He further implored the university community to patronise the laboratories,聽saying that聽“I am happy that today this dream is a reality, for us to be commissioning the laboratories today, shows the commitment of the university.鈥

Earlier, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor,聽Administration, Prof.聽Isaac Butswat,聽commended the VC for his tireless effort聽in聽bringing聽this to be, stressing that 鈥渁聽healthy workforce is an asset to an organisation.鈥
Butswat聽also commended the聽NOUN聽VC for making the laboratories accessible not only for the university community but also to聽the聽larger community.
On his part, the dean聽of the faculty, Prof. Shehu Usman Adamu,聽also commended the聽Vice-Chancellor聽for making this commissioning a reality聽and fully equipping the laboratories.聽鈥淭his has been in existence before now, but the support of Prof. Peters made it a reality, and we appreciate his deep support.鈥

Leading the聽management and staff on聽a聽facility tour, the聽Principal Medical Laboratory Scientist, Mrs.聽Medlyn Okolo Obieze, said the laboratory was formally established in Lagos before its relocation聽to聽the聽headquarters.
鈥淭his laboratory has been in construction for聽seven聽years but today, Prof, Femi Peters made it a reality,鈥澛爏he stated.
Present at the commissioning聽were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor,聽Academic, Prof.聽Uduma Oji Uduma,聽the Registrar, Mr. Oladipo Ajayi, University Bursar, Malam Nasiru Marafa, University Librarian, Dr. Angela Okpala, other senior staff of the university, staff from various department/directorates and well-wishers.
Unveiling
The highlight of the event聽was the free medical checks and聽tests.
It would be recalled that the dean 聽in a memo dated聽June聽6,聽2023,聽revealed that聽the Vice-Chancellor has approved the commencement of Medical Diagnostic Laboratory unit of聽the faculty,聽which was set-up as a welfare package for staff.
Consequent upon that, the VC聽also approved the聽procurement of relevant equipment and consumable items for effective operation聽at the聽Medical Diagnostic Laboratory unit.
