Delegation of Kaduna South Reps member at the Kaduna study centre

A member representing Kaduna South Federal Constituency聽in the House of Representatives,聽聽Hon. Abdulkarim Hussaini Ahmad,聽has paid a courtesy visit聽to聽the 水果派 of Nigeria鈥檚 Kaduna Study Centre, promising to establish a community student centre in his constituency.

Hon.聽Ahmad,聽who聽is the聽Deputy聽Committee Chairman on聽Host聽Communities,聽was represented by his Special Assistance on Media and Communication,聽Mr.聽Sharifudeen Ibrahim Muhammad聽and聽was accompanied by other team members聽to the centre.

The delegation was received by the director of the聽centre Mr.聽Yusuf Abdulahi, Head of Administration,聽Hajiya Fatima Yakubu 聽and some senior staffers.

The lawmaker said聽the visit聽was聽aimed at聽building聽a cordial relationship聽between聽the university and his office, hoping to聽result to an聽enabling platform to discuss and relate on issues of concerns聽for the ultimate聽progress and growth of聽the institution, Kaduna聽state聽and the country at large.

He聽applaudeded聽the聽university鈥檚聽inestimable commitment and contribution to the growth and sustainable development of education in the country.

The committee on host communities, according to him,聽is not for witch-hunting but rather to mediate between the MDAs,聽institutions聽and companies situated in the聽host communities.

Hon. Ahmad聽emphasised that there聽was need for the聽study聽centre to give back to the community in the area of Cooperate Social Responsibility, even as he聽promised to look into the possibility of establishing a community study聽centre聽in his constituency.

Welcoming the delegation,聽the centre director,聽who disclosed聽that he聽had no knowledge of the existence of such committee before their visit, stated聽that people assumed聽that聽the university is new but in reality it鈥檚 been in existence since 1983 although it was suspended for some time but was never cancelled.

He added that聽the聽Kaduna聽Study Centre was the first to be established among the聽115 centres聽of the university聽that聽cut across the country.

Abdullahi聽said the university is regulated by the National Universities Commission聽(NUC), Africa Centre for Distance Education聽(ACDE)聽and聽the聽Commonwealth Learning聽(COL).

Emphasising on the university鈥檚聽course materials,聽the director聽said they聽are designed and written in a simple form for easy understanding.

On the relationship with the host community, the director explained that the relationship is cordial and the university is working closely with the community to ensure harmony, stressing that NOUN聽engages the community in her activities especially during convocation.

Abdullahi, therefore, urged the聽lawmaker聽to establish a community study聽centre聽in Kaduna聽South as there are thousands of potential students waiting for such opportunity.
