Oka-Akoko centre visits

The advocacy team of聽the聽Oka-Akoko Community Study Centre on,聽Sunday, May聽14,聽2023,聽took its sensitisation聽campaign聽to two prominent churches聽as well as other importances places聽in Oka-Akoko聽environs.

The first point of call was the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Ayo, Owolagba in Oka,聽where聽the team was received and given enough time to inform the large congregation of the opportunities聽in聽NOUN.

The Director, Dr.聽Joseph Babajide Oyadeyi,聽who led the聽team,聽said Oka-Akoko people should count themselves advantageous to have the聽study聽centre in their community.

He聽informed them that NOUN is a聽federal聽university that offers different programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate聽levels.

Oyadeyi added聽that NOUN is flexible, accessible, and affordable for all who want to add value to themselves, listing the various faculties and programmes available at the聽university with the approval of the National Universities聽Commission (NUC ).

The director聽added that聽Higher聽National Diploma holders now have the privilege to be admitted into the 300 level, and advised parents to send their children to NOUN.

He also explained that NOUN is unique as students can study at any place,聽in their pace.

Questions from the congregation were well attended to and concluded by thanking the pastor of the Church, Past. Dr.聽Fesojaye Adedeji and the leadership of the church for the grace to address the聽church.

The Pastor appreciated the NOUN team for the visit.

At St John’s Anglican Church, Oka, the congregation was elated to have the team in their midst, as the聽Archdeacon of the Church, Venerable J. O. Idowu, was appreciated by the visiting for the opportunity.

Equally, the聽centre also visited Oke Agbe in Akoko North-west Local Government Area and Oba-Akoko in Akoko South-west Local Government Area,聽recently.

At Oke Agbe, the team visited the Ajana of Afa’s palace where the NOUN team was warmly received by the Regend, HRH Ajayi,聽who incidentally was an annex-student of NOUN, the Oba-in-Council, and聽community leaders.

In her remarks, the Regend thanked the team for enlightening her people, even as she聽signified her intention to enroll in a聽master’s degree programme聽at the聽study聽centre.

The team also took the sensitisation exercise to the Palace of Ewi of Aje-Oke Agbe, HRM Oba Oloruntoba Bello who was highly elated about the advocacy visit.

The youth leader in the town, Mr Joseph Ariyo also appreciated the NOUN team for the visit and promised to ensure that youth in the community are well informed about the university.

Other places visited in the聽local聽government聽area聽were the Comprehensive Health Centre, Rufus Giwa Memorial General Hospital, Divisional Police Headquarters,聽and the Akoko North-west Local Government Secretariat.

It was the turn of Oba-Akokoa a few days later when the team visited the Palace of HRM, Oba Nurudeen Adeniyi Adegoroye, the Oloba of Oba, as the traditional ruler, his chiefs, community and youth leaders were聽on聽hand to receive the team.

The聽director appreciated the Oba and his people for the importance they attached to the visit.

In his reaction, the youth leader, Mr.聽Stephen Adeyemi,聽appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and his management team for bringing university education closer to their locality and thanked the聽director and staff of the聽centre for the orientation.

The team聽then聽took the advocacy to the staff of St.聽Peter’s Anglican Primary School, St.聽Peter’s Church and Oludaye Grammar School in the town.

The聽advocacy聽team comprised the聽director, Dr.聽Jide Oyadeyi, Mrs.聽Queenfaith Adebo, Mrs.F. Aribigbola, Mr.聽Pius Akintola,聽Mr.聽Seun Adeyemi, Mr.聽Suleiman Jimoh, Miss Bunmi Adeoye and Mr. Gilbert Jayeola.
