
The pre-accreditation team of the 水果派 of Nigeria聽(NOUN)聽led by Prof.聽Mba O. Okoronkwo,聽OON, has聽visited聽the聽Kano Study Centre to ascertain the level of preparedness聽and ensure readiness for the聽forthcoming聽2023 National Universities Commission鈥檚聽(NUC)聽accreditation exercise.
The visit, which took place on October 10, 2023 had other members聽of the team as聽Prof.聽Olufemi Otubanju and Mr. Oladimeji Tiamiyu, who is the secretary, as聽Kano forms聽part of those聽centres聽lined up for the NUC聽accreditation exercise.
In his welcome address,聽the director of the聽centre, Mr.聽Muddasir Ahmad Ishaq, said聽ever since receiving the information on the exercise,聽the centred braced up, ensuring that everything was in order and in accordance to the expected rules and guidelines.
He expressed his happiness聽for the visit, stating that聽the team would聽direct and聽redirect聽the聽centre on what should be done to have a successful and聽a聽hitch-free exercise.
The director, who聽introduced聽the members team to congregation of staffers, reminded that the upcoming accreditation is a serious assignment that led the Vice-Chancellor to set-up a strong committee with the mandate of appraising everything, including strengths and weaknesses ahead of the main visit of NUC.
Ishaq then聽assured that all the revealed weaknesses would聽be checkmated before the accreditation exercise since there is a聽check-list聽to pinpoint the areas of lack and inadequacies.
The Co-Chair聽of the team,聽Prof.聽Olufemi Otubanju, while speaking,聽informed the聽centre on the critical importance of the accreditation, and聽maintained that it is very important to聽every聽university, hence the need to prepare fully for it,聽as a window dressing is not required.
Otubanju聽added that whatever is lacking or inadequate should immediately be replaced and provided before the exercise.
The team substantially discussed聽with all the stakeholders in the exercise to acquaint themselves with what is on ground as it affects them.
Shortly after the meeting with the management of the聽centre, they聽engaged on a facility tour to physically see the level of preparedness.
Among the facilities inspected were Auditorium, E-examination Hall, Library, E-Library, Language Laboratory, Computer, Warehouse, newly-constructed Science Laboratory,聽newly-constructed 100-capacity Library and聽Resources Centre as well as聽staff offices.
Having seen for themselves, the visiting team remarked that聽in all the聽places they聽visited Kano centre聽was actually on the right track to welcome the proper accreditation team.
They聽further聽levelled聽the聽centre as “Centre of Excellence,鈥澛爓hich,聽according to Okoronkwo, Kano Study Centre facility聽could be matched with that of “Indira Gandhi Open University聽(IGN OU)聽and that of UNISA in South Africa.鈥
In his closing remarks,聽the聽secretary聽of the team commended the centre director and his team for a聽job well done, disclosing that members of the team were fully satisfied with the level of preparation they witnessed on ground.
