As a consequence of the numerous benefits inherent in聽study聽assessment,聽the聽Dean of the聽Faculty of聽Education,聽水果派 of Nigeria (NOUN),聽Prof.聽Uchenna S.聽A.聽Osuji,聽has called on teachers at all levels of education to properly assess their students.
Osuji stated this聽on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 while presenting聽the 20th聽Inaugural聽Lecture聽series of the university聽at聽its聽headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking on the topic:聽鈥滱ssessment for the Learning to Learn and Life-Long Learning Societies,鈥 he聽said in the business of learning,聽it is imperative to assess the ability of learners and that everyone invested in teaching at every level of education and even outside of education should have a basic knowledge of educational assessment to fit in well.

The professor of聽Measurement and Evaluation, Department of Educational Foundations,聽also pushed for a more robust and reliable assessment system,聽stating that if the assessment system is flawed and substandard,聽“we will be producing students with poor academic achievements at all levels of education.”
According to him, the resultant effect 鈥渨ill ultimately spell doom for the society and will be bad聽to聽our collective existence and development.鈥
The lecturer聽said assessment starts with goal setting for students’ learning and that these goals are articulated and implemented at the programme and course levels.
On his part, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, congratulated the presenter of the university鈥檚 20th Inaugural Lecture, stressing that NOUN had a comprehensive and reliable grading and assessment system.

Peters added that the聽university was always poised and ready to ensure that its staff聽receive聽adequate training to fill-in any inadequacies in assessment, even as he assured聽that the students/learners聽will continue to get聽the best from the university.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor,聽Prof.聽Uduma O.聽Uduma, under whose office the lecturer series is being organised, said in聽his closing remarks聽that Osuji聽was a worthy inaugural lecturer and that the university was very pleased to give him the opportunity.
The lecture聽drew a packed audience from in and outside the university, including the university鈥檚 erstwhile Vice-Chancellor, Emeritus Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede, the lecturer鈥檚 family and friends, colleagues and a sundry other guests and journalists.
