The Faculty of Sciences, 水果派 of Nigeria (NOUN),聽has organised a聽2-day training for members of its registry staff聽which took place聽on Wednesday, October聽26, 2022.

The event, which聽took place聽at the聽headquarters聽of the university in聽Jabi, Abuja,聽was聽aimed at聽enlightening the聽staff about their work ethics in order to enhance their performance.

Addressing the participants, the acting director of Human Resources, Dr.聽Muyiwa Akintola,聽said the training was arranged to educate registry staff of聽the聽faculty on how to play their roles聽as the university聽administrators, which is the key role in every university.

He expressed that as administrators, 鈥渨hen you are posted to one聽directorate,聽department, unit or office in the university circle the accumulative effects make one an administrator in the university,鈥 adding that 鈥渢he frequent duties assigned to an administrator can be of help to them to learn on the job that is if they embrace it as experience knowledge.鈥

He opined that the improper code of dressing should be moderate. As administrator 鈥樷檡ou dress smartly,聽an administrator should be a role model for others. I observed that聽an聽administrator do not dress appropriate.

鈥淥n Mondays,聽we聽are to wear corporate and Wednesdays we are enjoined to put on our advocacy wear which was made for us to advocate to the environment around Abuja metropolis that we are from NOUN. As an administrator dress smart.鈥

He added that they should be聽respectful of the聽hierarchy, saying that 鈥渆ven if the person is a step ahead of you or a year interval because I have observed that the level of disrespect is so obvious 聽since we were all referred here to work, some of us have seized that opportunity given to us by our referrals to misbehave forgetting that the gave us job and we should not expect them to do the job for us.鈥

Akintola urged everyone聽at the event to endeavour and have聽a copy of the university rules and regulations or condition of service,聽which will assist them to carry out their job effectively.

Also speaking聽at training,聽the Principal聽Assistant聽Registrar, Staff聽Training and Development, Ms.聽Mable Madu said聽Information and Communication Technology has made record keeping very easy for the university as an Open and Distance Learning institution.

鈥淚nformation is very important for聽the聽day-to-day operations. Administrative record could be in form of memos, minutes of meetings,聽report e.t.c.

鈥樷橝s a registry staff, If you are given a memo, you are expected to record it electronically because our focus is on I.C.T.聽You are supposed聽to gather聽every information about聽research from the lecturers and do a proper documentation because we are in an academic environment,鈥 she said.

Madu added that the use of 聽I.C.T has positively impacted the record management profession and record life cycle, sharing of records, distribution, dissemination of information, retrieval and discovery of record in an organisation.
