The Dei-Dei centre at the PWA office

The聽Special聽Study Centre for the Nigerian Police Force, National聽Open聽University of Nigeria (NOUN), has visited the Nigerian Police Wives Association (PWA), where the centre preached advocacy messages of the university to the association.

The聽visiting聽team, which arrived at the venue of the PWA regular meeting on Friday, October 6, 2023, comprised of聽the聽centre director, Dr. Samson S. Afolabi,聽and the聽Director of聽Police聽Education, ACP. Ibidapo Olubiyi, in fulfilment of聽his聽earlier聽promise to lead the聽centre鈥檚聽advocacy campaign.

Afolabi,聽while addressing the women,聽said with five credits聽including Mathematics and English Language, they will be admitted to study the course of their choice, and they can set their study based on their time and pace.

He said聽in NOUN age is not a barrier,聽saying that聽the information聽was for their husbands as well as their children and to take the opportunity and improve on their academic status.

The director聽said study materials are given to students to study at home and they are very easy to read and study, because it is a work and study system, while聽they can also keep their jobs, and online facilitation聽is also available to students and the fees are not heavy on them.

While introducing the NOUN team to the meeting, ACP.聽Olubiyi聽said the aim of their visit was to introduce the聽centre to them as聽it聽was established for that purpose.

He said the聽centre was established in collaboration with the Nigerian Police to basically give opportunities to police officers, their wives, children and every member of their families, so that there would be no excuse of none availability of school around them.

Explaining further, he said that NOUN is a place where they can get education at their own pace and at their own time, as education is made easy by working and learning at the same time, and structured in such a way that it will be convenient for everybody.

The director added that聽the reason for their visit was based on the fact that they were not maximizing the opportunity of the presence of the聽centre聽situation in their vicinity.

Olubiyi said聽they brought the message of the presence of the聽centre to them聽as聽they might not have known that the school is there and might be looking for admission for their children elsewhere, while the school is behind them and the fees聽are聽also affordable.

He urged the women to make sure聽that聽they take action and at the same聽time聽take the message of NOUN and spread the message to the barracks.

The women were particularly concerned about the school fees as almost all their聽questions bordered on the issues of the school fees.

The director, however clarified their concerns, and stressed that聽the school is very affordable and accessible, with a quality聽education.
