The聽advocacy team聽of the Special Study Centre for the National Union of Road Transport Workers聽(NURTW), of the 水果派 of Nigeria (NOUN),聽has taken聽its advocacy campaign to the Berekete聽Family Transport Services Limited, taxi drivers park,聽Wuse聽Zone 1, Abuja.

The visit, which took place on Saturday, August 20, 2022,聽which was organised by the management of the聽centre, and was聽led by the聽director,聽Mrs.聽Patience聽Abimbola Adeniyi, was aimed at enlightening the drivers about the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode of learning, and the programmes offered by NOUN.

Adeniyi told the gathering that the university is recognised because it was established by the聽Federal Government and has the same status as other universities聽in the country.

She said NOUN gives people the opportunity to learn while they also engage in their businesses unlike the conventional system where聽one聽must be in a certain place and time to study.

While urging them to enrol, she said as students聽of NOUN, with their聽smart-phones聽and printed study materials they can study anywhere they are at their convenience.

The director聽also highlighted the benefits and opportunities of enrolling into the university as聽NOUN students聽have access to online lectures which are recorded and can be replayed.

she encouraged them to take the opportunity聽especially as the university is mandated to take mass education to people of all ages.

On his part, the Principal Assistant Registrar, Mr. Abbas Olawale,聽reminded them that the information聽passed聽to them will not only benefit them but their whole family as they will have children that will need to enrol into the university.

He urged聽them to enrol because education adds value to human beings and also to their personality,聽stressing聽that the mission of the university is to take quality education to the people.

In his response, the Administrative Manager of the聽transport聽service, Mr. Vincent John,聽said that even though time is money for them, information is key and the information they received from the NOUN team was of importance to them.

John said聽he believed that something important has been awakened in them;聽the passion and desire that make them feel that they can achieve something significant.

He cited the example of their Boss who has also gone back to school to read law at his age and pointed out that age is never a limitation to education.

The manager聽urged the drivers to take advantage of NOUN鈥檚聽flexibility to improve themselves聽as聽education affords聽one the opportunity to fit into society properly.

The聽centre聽director聽later聽entertained a number of questions from the drivers and all their聽questions聽were聽answered.

The programme also featured the distribution of flyers by the staff and top officials of the union were presented with customised advocacy souvenirs.
