The team at the Badagry Palace
The Badagry Kingdom has been plunged into mourning following the passing of its paramount ruler, His Royal Majesty, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, the Akran of Badagry.
The monarch鈥檚 demise was officially announced on January聽12,聽2026.
The late monarch, who reigned for nearly five decades, was a towering personality in the history and development of the ancient coastal town.
His reign was widely noted for peace, unity, and sustained community development across Badagry and its environs.
In honour of his memory, the Director,聽Badagry Study Centre聽of the 水果派 of Nigeria (NOUN),聽Dr. Julius Paul Eyanuku, led members of his entourage on a condolence visit to the family of the late Oba Akran of Badagry.
During the visit, Dr. Eyanuku conveyed the heartfelt condolences of NOUN to the bereaved family and signed the Condolence Register on behalf of the聽university.
The late king was a strong supporter of the university and the establishment of its study center in Badagry.
He consistently supported the center’s activities and ensured that it operated in an atmosphere of peace and security within his kingdom.
Born in 1936, His Royal Majesty was a journalist before ascending the throne of his forefathers on 23 April 1977.
Beyond Badagry, his influence was felt across Lagos State, where he served as the Permanent Vice-Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, offering guidance and leadership within traditional institutions.
A devoted custodian of Ogun culture and tradition, the late Akran of Badagry was deeply committed to the welfare of his people and earned widespread respect for his wisdom and dedication.
