The Director, Abeokuta Study Centre of聽the聽水果派 of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr. Oyekunle Adegboyega, has led members of staff to the聽Ministry聽of Science and Technology, Ogun State,聽for an聽advocacy聽purpose.

The Director and his team were received by the Commissioner,聽Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu and other senior directors in the ministry.

Adegboyega,聽while explaining the purpose of the visit to his host, disclosed the nature and system of Open and聽Distance聽Learning (ODL) mode of education championed聽by NOUN.

He also emphasised that NOUN,聽being the largest ODL single-mode institution in West African region,聽makes learning flexible, accessible and affordable to workers and people.

Staff of the聽ministry, he added,聽can apply for any of the various programmes to upgrade their academic聽qualifications聽as they stand to enjoy both learning and working at the same time.

The Director聽also requested the聽ministry聽to聽consider including the centre in their training, workshop or seminar, adding that students of the聽university who are indigenes聽of the state should be considered for the EDUCASH programme of the state government.

Responding, the Commissioner confirmed that a lot of improvement has been taken place in NOUN likewise the Open University of the UK.

Prof. Arigbabu聽affirmed the great standard and progress recorded by NOUN聽under聽the administration of the current Vice-Chancellor,聽Prof. Femi Peters,聽which, he said, was聽commendable.

The聽Commissioner,聽however,聽expressed doubt聽on the request of including NOUN students in the EDUCASH programme聽due to聽what he put as聽NOUN’s student population and categories.

He then opined that it could still be worked out.

The Commissioner was presented聽with聽a souvenir on behalf of the Vice Chancellor,聽Professor Femi Peters聽by the Director,聽while聽fliers and other advocacy materials were also given to the Commissioner’s team.
