The Abeokuta Study Centre of the ˮ���� of Nigeria (NOUN), has received members of the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the accreditation of B.Sc Physics in the Faculty of Sciences.

The team was led by Prof. Ezenwaka Laz, from the Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojikwu University, while Prof. Kwaha Barnabas from the University of Jos, Prof. Francis Egbohare, an ODL expert from the University of Ibadan were members of the team and Mr. Onyemauche Maduka served as the NUC representative.

Also present were the NOUN’s team consisting of the Dean of the faculty, Prof. K. Lawal, the Head of Department (HOD) of Physics, Dr. F. Ayedun and the Directorate of Academic Planning (DAP) representative, Mr. Oyenuga.

Host director Prof. Olusegun Adeleke Oba-Adenuga and his team received the NUC team at the centre, after which, he presented the welcome address on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters.

“Let me with all profound humility welcome you to the ˮ���� of Nigeria (NOUN), Abeokuta Study Centre, Ogun State, Nigeria, members of the accreditation visit of the National Universities Commission for our Physics programme.

“It was with gratitude that we received your letter informing us of the visit, and with utmost eagerness did we since then look up to today’s event.

We thank God that the day has come at last and that our distinguished visitors were granted journey mercies to this great university,” he said.

The director added that physics as a programme, provides quantitative and analytic skills needed for analysing data and solving problems in the sciences, engineering, and medicine, as well as in economics, finance, management, law, and public policy.

He added that “Our amiable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Ayinde Peters, who I am representing at this study centre, is a Professor of Chemistry. He knows the importance of the Physics programme at this university.”

According to Oba-Adenuga, the VC had assured “the members of this team that we place a high premium on the efficient training of our students in NOUN, and we maintain high standards to drive home this vision.”

After the welcome remark, the team proceeded to inspect the Physics Laboratory, monitoring and assessing the students on practical work. Students’ practical files, materials, and records were also checked.

Additional inspections were also carried out at the students’ library, facilitation hall, examination hall, offices, students’ restrooms,  and counselors’ rooms were all inspected with satisfactory comments.

Shortly after the inspection, the team held a brief meeting with the centre management, commending the efforts put into the success of the exercise.
