
AAU team’s visit to NOUN
The Africa Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL)聽has聽played host to a team from the Association of African Universities (AAU) who visited to verify installed ICT facilities,聽Metro-Campus 15-Kilometer Fibre 12 Core 1GBPS Internet Facility and 聽e-Library resources.
The team, which visited the headquarters of聽the 水果派 of Nigeria (NOUN)聽in聽Abuja聽on Thursday,聽February 2,聽2023聽was聽led聽to the Vice-Chancellor鈥檚 office as well as the DVC,聽Technology Innovation and Research, by the ACETEL director, Prof. Grace Jokthan.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters,聽welcomed the team and commended them for their support to the university,聽saying that聽the university聽has聽benefited from the AAU鈥檚聽provision of聽internet connectivity.
Peters said聽he had聽personally聽inspected the newly installed IT facilities around the university campus and assured them聽of the university鈥檚 utmost satisfaction.
AAU鈥檚 team leader,聽Ms. Irene Dufoe Addai,聽intimated聽the Vice-Chancellor of the purpose of their visit, noting that they聽came聽to ensure that the university has a stable internet connection, as the university runs on internet connectivity.
On her part, the DVC,聽Prof. Monioluwa Olaniyi also commended the centre鈥檚 director,聽explaining that Prof.聽Jokthan and her team have been contributing immensely to the development of the university.
Addressing the AAU team, Prof.聽Olaniyi told them that NOUN has an IT committee that oversees聽the 聽technology activities in the university which she chairs.
鈥淵ou know we are largely driven by technology.聽Also,聽at that committee,聽we get audits of the activities of each of our units, ACETEL has contributed greatly to that committee,鈥澛爏he said.
Responding,聽Ms. Dufoe Addai explained that her team聽was on the verification visit not to penalise聽rather they came to聽help not only ACETEL,聽but NOUN generally聽to ensure that every part of the university is connected.
Earlier, Prof. Grace Jokthan聽had聽briefed them about the newly installed聽Plasma Television, which,聽she said,聽has聽been installed in all the聽faculties of the聽university to enable facilitators have a wider reach of students and easily interact with them where聽ever they are.
鈥淲e are in the process of moving the Directorate of Learning Content Management System (DLCMS) from the present place, because they are sharing a building with the聽media but given the importance of that聽directorate in the university, a whole building is being dedicated to that.聽It is actually at the finishing stage;聽it is the same building that will host our C-Code studios.
鈥淲e felt that it will not be good to put it there and in the next month we are moving them again.聽So we just mounted it in our CISCO Lab,鈥澛爏he added.
The AAU team members took turns to ask the ACETEL ICT officers some technical questions regarding the internet connection in the centre to ascertain the number of times internet connection has been interrupted聽so as to聽be able to help curb the problem.
The聽team toured the Directorate of Information Technology (DICT), the Directorate of Learning Content Management System (DLCMS) and the NOUN Library to check the IT facilities on ground and to ascertain the level of functionality.
The Directors of ICT and DLCMS and the University Librarian received the team at their聽respective offices and聽showed聽them their IT facilities and the effective functionality of the equipment.
Other members of the聽visiting AAU聽team聽were聽representatives聽of the聽World Bank聽Consultant and聽the聽Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC).
