The event scheduled to commence at 2:00 p.m., will have聽Justice Ajileye unveiled two publications: “Electronic Evidence (Second Edition,” 2026) and “A Compendium of Cases on Electronic Evidence, Volume II” (2020鈥2025)鈥攂oth of which are considered significant contributions to legal scholarship and the evolving jurisprudence of electronic evidence in Nigeria.

The books provide updated analyses, contemporary judicial authorities and practical guidance on the growing role of technology, digital transactions, online communications and electronically generated materials in legal practice and the administration of justice.

Members of the public, educational institutions, professional bodies, development partners and corporate organisations have been invited to support the foundation’s vision and participate in what organisers describe as a landmark gathering that combines legal scholarship with educational philanthropy.

Beyond celebrating intellectual achievement, the occasion is also expected to provide a platform for meaningful discussions on Nigeria’s present realities and future aspirations.

The Medical Diagnostic Laboratory Unit of the 水果派 of Nigeria (NOUN) on Monday, June 15, 2026, commemorated the 2026 World Blood Donor Day with a passionate appeal to Nigerians to embrace voluntary blood donation as a lifesaving humanitarian service.

The event, themed “One Drop of Humanity: Give Blood, Save Lives,” brought together healthcare professionals, medical laboratory scientists, members of staff, and other stakeholders to raise awareness on the importance of safe and regular blood donation.

In her welcome address, the Head of the NOUN Medical Diagnostic Laboratory Unit, Mrs. Obieze Medlyn, expressed appreciation to participants for honouring the invitation and supporting the university’s efforts to promote healthy living and humanitarian service.

She described blood donation as one of the simplest yet most impactful acts of kindness, noting that a single unit of blood can mean the difference between life and death for accident victims, women experiencing childbirth complications, children suffering from severe anaemia, and patients battling various medical conditions.

According to her, the theme of the celebration underscores humanity’s collective responsibility to care for one another.

She therefore encouraged members of the university community and the general public to embrace voluntary blood donation as a contribution towards building a healthier and safer society.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Isaac Butswat, commended the Medical Diagnostic Laboratory Unit for organising an event focused on a critical aspect of healthcare delivery.

He observed that blood remains an irreplaceable medical resource, stressing that despite advances in science and technology, no substitute has been found for human blood.

Consequently, he noted that the availability of blood for medical emergencies depends largely on the willingness of individuals to donate voluntarily.

Prof. Butswat said the theme, “One Drop of Humanity: Give Blood, Save Lives,” serves as a powerful reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can preserve lives and restore hope to families facing difficult circumstances.

He reaffirmed the university management’s commitment to supporting health awareness programmes and initiatives that promote the well-being of staff, students, and the wider society.

The keynote lecture, titled “The Life Cycle of Humanity: One Drop of Humanity, Give Blood, Save Lives,” was delivered by Dr. Oyetunde B. Akinloye, a Blood Safety Consultant from Baze University.

Dr. Akinloye described blood as the lifeline that connects humanity, explaining that at different stages of life, every individual may either become a donor or a recipient.

He noted that access to safe blood is often essential from birth through old age, making blood donation a shared social responsibility.

According to him, regular voluntary blood donation remains the safest and most reliable means of maintaining adequate blood supplies for hospitals and emergency situations.

He highlighted the critical role donated blood plays in supporting accident victims, surgical patients, cancer patients, women with pregnancy-related complications, and children suffering from severe illnesses.

Beyond its medical significance, he said blood donation symbolises compassion, solidarity, and love for humanity.

He urged Nigerians to dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding blood donation and embrace it as a noble act capable of giving others a second chance at life.

Dr. Akinloye also stressed the importance of adhering to blood safety standards and sustaining public enlightenment campaigns to ensure that blood transfusion services remain safe, accessible, and effective.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Federal Medical Centre Abuja Chapter, Mr. Anthony Ani Benedict, applauded NOUN for joining the global community in celebrating World Blood Donor Day.

He noted that medical laboratory scientists play a vital role in ensuring the safety and quality of blood used for transfusion and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to promoting best practices in blood services across the country.

Mr. Benedict encouraged healthy adults to cultivate the habit of voluntary blood donation, emphasising that such selfless acts contribute significantly to strengthening the healthcare system and saving countless lives.

He further noted that sustained public awareness and education are essential to addressing the persistent shortage of blood often experienced in hospitals nationwide.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Quality Officer of the Medical Diagnostic Laboratory Unit, Mr. Ibrahim Siddi, expressed gratitude to all guests and participants for contributing to the success of the programme.

He also commended members of the organising committee for their dedication and hard work, noting that the event had succeeded in drawing attention to the importance of blood donation and inspiring more people to become ambassadors of the lifesaving cause.

Prof. Uduma monitoring the ongoing e-examination at Uyo Centre

The Vice-Chancellor of the 水果派 of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, has intensified monitoring of the 2026_1 semester examination marking exercise and Computer-Based Examinations across the university鈥檚 study centres.

During a working visit to Uyo Study Centre, Prof. Uduma received a briefing from the Deputy Director, Directorate of Examinations and Assessment, Dr. Nnenna Chukwuma.

The report showed Enugu Study Centre leading in marking performance, with Uyo closely behind, while other centres were working to improve pace.

The Vice-Chancellor promptly engaged senior academic managers for real-time updates and solutions. A key issue raised was the shortage of Nursing markers at Uyo, as many were involved in professional practical examinations.

Following Prof. Uduma鈥檚 intervention, additional Nursing markers reported for duty, boosting the centre鈥檚 capacity to clear over 5,000 Nursing scripts.

Uyo Centre is currently handling more than 72,000 examination scripts from South-South study centres. In response, the Vice-Chancellor approved additional marking time for faculties with high volumes: Management Sciences, Computing, Health Sciences, and Education. Faculties with lower loads, including Arts and Agricultural Sciences, were directed to conclude by Monday, June 8, 2026.

Prof. Uduma also inspected the CBE hall and noted inadequate lighting. Centre management cited high operational costs of running the main generator. The Vice-Chancellor assured staff of management鈥檚 commitment to resolving infrastructure challenges affecting teaching, learning, and assessment.

Staff commended the VC鈥檚 proactive, field-based supervision style, which they said inspires confidence and accelerates problem-solving.

Since assuming office, Prof. Uduma has maintained direct oversight at study centres to ensure policies translate into measurable outcomes. The Uyo visit reaffirms NOUN鈥檚 commitment to excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Dr. Mohammed explaining the usgae of the health equipment

The Vice-Chancellor, 水果派 of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, has revealed that over 65 percent of nurses with first degrees in Nigeria were trained by the university.

The VC added that the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria confirmed this figure to the management recently.

The Vice-Chancellor stated this on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 when he launched the NOUN Emergency Health Centre at the Model Study Centre, Dutse-Alhaji, Abuja.

The NOUN VC explained that the university will continue to open access to Nigerians, which now transcend to the health aspect.

The ceremony marked the commencement of the centres’ at the 39 study centres of the university nationwide, which Prof. Uduma said it was the first phase of the initiative.

“It is an ongoing process. All study centres will get these facilities for the students benefits because their lives are highly valued.

“I am happy that the Red Cross is training our staff, ” he said.

Prof. Uduma added that the university management has approved the engagement of some of the nurses as volunteers.

He said the era of students struggling with health issues during examination and other academic periods is over, as the facilities will serve the first aid and other basic clinical purposes.

He said the Emergency Health Centres will not take over the work of HMOs, but would first ensure the stabilisation of patients before their referrals to the main medical facilities.

Prof. Uduma assured that by August, the number of centres with the facility would double, saying that the university will ensure that all NOUN centres will have it by the end of the year.

He said by doing so, NOUN would be fulfilling the federal government’s mandate of taking care of students health, hoping that more students will have additional confidence to join the university.

Earlier, the Head of Clinic of the university, Dr. Hassan Mohamed, explained that the centres will be treating normal cases of patients.

Dr. Mohammed, who said staff are already being trained to handle such emergencies, added that the first aiders are billed to go for more series of trainings in the future.

The emergency health centres, he added, will transfer the cases to the medical centres after their initial treatments.

Dr. Mohammed showed the Vice-Chancellor and his each item and its usage, ranging from medications such as ORS, PCM, Heart related machine, equipment to handle trauma, fridge to store medicine, and the likes.

The Vice-Chancellor was flanked at the launch of the centres by his deputies, Prof. Shehu Adamu and Prof. Christine Ofulue, the Registrar, Mr. Oladipo Ajayi, the bursar, Mal. Nasiru Marafa, the Librarian, Prof. Angela Okpala, the Centre Director, Abuja Model Study Centre, Prof. Nebath Tanglang and other senior university officials.

The Association of University Librarians of Nigerian Universities (AULNU) has called on universities to adopt institutional Open Access policies and restrict leadership of academic libraries to professionally-certified librarians.

The demand was contained in a communiqu茅 issued after AULNU鈥檚 114th Bi-Annual Conference and General Meeting held at the National Universities Commission (NUC)聽auditorium,聽Abuja, from May 4 to 7, 2026.

The University Librarian of the 水果派 of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Angela Okpala is the current national president of the association and delivered her speech at the conference.

The conference themed:聽鈥淢anaging University Libraries in the Era of Open Access Publishing: The Role of Librarians,鈥澛燿rew librarians, scholars, policymakers, and development partners.

Delegates said Open Access Publishing is now vital for democratising knowledge, improving research visibility, and accelerating innovation, according to the communique, issued on May 7, 2026.

They observed that university libraries are shifting from custodial roles to strategic centers for research dissemination, digital preservation, and digital literacy.

The meeting identified major barriers including poor ICT infrastructure, unstable power, inadequate funding, low digital literacy, and weak policies.

Delegates also expressed concern over predatory journals, misinformation, and the misuse of Artificial Intelligence in scholarly communication.

AULNU frowned at the appointment of non-qualified persons as University Librarians, stating聽that doing so聽undermines professionalism and standards.

It resolved that only librarians registered with the Librarians Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) should be eligible for such appointments.

The association urged TETFund and government agencies to strengthen support for Open Access infrastructure, digital repositories, and broadband connectivity.

It recommended that Open Access publications and Institutional Repositories be recognized in accreditation and research assessments.

AULNU聽also commended NUC,TETFund,聽the National Library of Nigeria聽and the Nigerian Library Association for their continued support of academic librarianship.

The association聽 pledged to deepen collaboration among university libraries to establish sustainable Open Access consortia and shared digital infrastructure.
